I am trying to build a life based on things worth doing in and of themselves.
Less external motivation—money, recognition—more intrinsic reward. I want to do stuff because I want to do it, not because I think I should.
Somehow, after getting up at 5am, commuting an hour, and working a full day on the farm in Pennsylvania’s August humidity, I had plenty left in me to shoot for two hours. I came home more energized and full than when I left that morning, fueled up with color and texture and lightness.
My office job never felt like that.
